About the Benin Cotonou Mission
The Benin Cotonou Mission was created on June 30, 2011 and includes the West African countries of Benin and Togo. The mission administers a population of nearly 16 million. The Church was first established in Togo in 1997 and in Benin in 1998. The Church in Benin and Togo has recently experienced some of the most rapid growth in the world. Within the past five years, the number of members and branches in the countries have quintupled. This rapid growth has occurred due to increasing numbers of missionaries assigned to the countries, high receptivity to LDS outreach, and good member activity and convert retention rates.
